The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer-adaptive test which assesses a person’s analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal and reading skills in standard written English. This test is taken in preparation for being admitted into a graduate management program, such as MBA and Masters in Finance related courses.

For Executive MBA, GMAC has recently introduced a new Mini GMAT called Executive Assessment exam. This exam is specially designed for EMBA applicants and is of considerably shorter duration. It is meant to test analytical and logical thinking of the applicant, which is more suited for the Executive MBA course.

 

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for GMAT is not particularly set by the exam owning authority GMAC but the candidate applying for the exam must have the age of 18 years. No upper age limit is applicable. Also, the candidate should have completed the graduation from the recognized university/institution.

 

GMAT Fees

The application fee for GMAT is $250, which would roughly translate to Rs. 15,000-16,000 approximately.

 

GMAT Pattern

The GMAT exam pattern consists of mainly four sections which will test the candidate’s abilities on various parameters.

These are – Writing, Reasoning, Verbal and Quantitative skills. The GMAT exam will be conducted in a time span of 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Scoring and Results in GMAT

Here are the minimum and maximum score range of each section, along with a mean average –

GMAT Score validity – GMAT exam scores are valid for five years, and are available for reporting for up to 10 years. Scores beyond 10 years are not available.

 

GMAT Result

The candidates can avail their GMAT result as soon as the exam is over. The candidate will have an option of accepting it or rejecting it. In the case of accepting the result, the candidate and the institutes of choice can view the result; but if the candidate declines the result none of the parties will be able to view the result of GMAT. Once the exam is over, candidates can download the non-official GMAT result. The main GMAT result can be downloaded only after 20 working days from one’s individual account on the GMAT website.

 

GMAT Dates

The most important question that anyone preparing for GMAT faces is when to start preparing for GMAT? There are no fixed official GMAT dates, you can choose any date according to your convenience and availability. In case you need to retake the GMAT exam you can do so after 16 days. You can take or retake the GMAT exam after every 16 days. You can appear for the exam a maximum of five times in a year. Ideally, you are recommended to register yourself two to three months before the exam date. If you register online or by phone, you can get yourself registered as late as 24 hours before the exam date. But it is safer to stick to early registration as you will then have a set schedule to prepare for the exam accordingly. Even the coaching institutes recommend you register at the earliest available date so that you have a wide window of time to prepare.
